Gail Smyth, director of Skills Canada - Ontario, presented the Peel District School Board with the Skills Work! School Board Award of Distinction for the second year. Board asks staff, students and parents to say “thank you” to bus drivers
The board approved Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, as the official date for Bus Driver Appreciation Day in Peel schools. The day is intended to be an opportunity to express appreciation to school bus drivers.
Schools, parents and students across the Peel board will participate in a variety of activities to acknowledge appreciation for school bus drivers.
Ian Chandler delegated to the board regarding the board’s environmental policy and procurement practices.
Board approves recommendation to rescind French Immersion Centre at Dundas-Fairview PS
Trustees approved the recommendation to rescind Resolution 12-248 (Part 1.2), designating Dundas- Fairview Public School –scheduled to open in Sept. 2014 – as a new French Immersion Centre. The school remains scheduled to open in Sept. 2014.

Board approves tender for construction of new schools
The tender for the construction of Fletcher’s Meadow #7 Public School was awarded to Bondfield Construction Company Limited, at a cost of $11,920,000, excluding HST.
The tender for the construction of Springdale 703 Public School was awarded to Bondfield Construction Company Limited, at a cost of $11,224,000, excluding HST.
The tender for the construction of Walnut Grove Public School was awarded to Percon Construction Ltd., at a cost of $10,595,000, excluding HST.
Board approves boundary changes and grade re-organizations
Trustees approved the boundaries and grade re-organizations of the following schools, effective September 2014:
• Dundas-Fairview Public School, new school and new boundary, organized as K – grade 5
• Fairview Public School, boundary change, K – grade 5
• Munden Park Public School, boundary change, K – grade 5
• Silver Creek Public School, boundary change, K – grade 5
• Thornwood Public School, boundary change, K – grade 5
• Corsair Public School, boundary change, grade 1– 5, FI

Board appoints trustees to Secondary French Immersion Committee
Trustees Stan Cameron and David Green were appointed to the Peel board’s Secondary French Immersion Committee. The committee will be comprised of the chair and vice-chair of the Board, two trustees, principal representatives, staff representatives from Planning, Human Resources, Transportation and CISESS, and senior administration representatives.
Board approves establishment of a Whistle Blower Policy Development Committee
Trustees approved the establishment of a Whistle Blower Policy Development Committee. The purpose of the committee is to create a policy that generates awareness and empowers staff and others to report suspected or actual occurrences of fraud, theft or illegal, unethical or inappropriate actions that are perceived to be in contravention with Peel District School Board policies and procedures.
The proposed structure of the Whistle Blower Policy Development Committee includes the chair of the audit committee, the chair or vice-chair of the board, two additional trustee representatives, one of the non-board members of the audit committee, and appropriate staff.
The Board will appoint two trustees to the committee at the Board meeting scheduled for Oct. 21, 2013.
