We Rise Together Report and recommended action

In November 2016, the Peel District School Board released We Rise Together: The Peel District School Board Action Plan to Support Black Students, a long-term intervention plan and comprehensive response to the educational experiences of Black students in the Peel board.

The Peel board enlisted the help of York University Professor Dr. Carl E. James to work with board research staff to measure the impact of the work with the strategic action plan schools. After the first year, four focus groups were conducted in May and June 2018 with 44 Black Peel students who attended these schools. Dr. James produced a We Rise Together report to present findings of the focus groups. The report also includes a series of recommendations that support many of the activities undertaken in year two and offer additional considerations for year three implementation.

Trustees receive 2017-18 Graduation Rates report

The five-year Peel board graduation rate is one important factor of the success of secondary students and schools. The overall graduation rate is the ratio of the number of students who earned an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) to the number of students who were in the initial grade 9 cohort. Specifically, the 2017-18 board graduation rate is based on the percentage of students in the 2013-14 grade 9 cohort who successfully completed all the requirements of the OSSD and graduated from any Peel board secondary school within five years. To learn more, see section 11.2 of the Regular Meeting of the Board agenda for June 19, 2019.
