​Peel schools celebrate Black History Month in February

Peel schools hosted Black History Month (BHM) celebrations in February to learn about and honour the rich culture, achievements and contributions of Black Canadians. Centrally, the Peel District School Board held its annual Spotlight on Black Heritage events on Feb. 7, where over 500 students and educators had the opportunity to learn more about the cultural traditions and accomplishments of the Black community. Student artwork, demonstrating key BHM themes, are currently on display in the atrium of the HJA Brown Education Centre, located at 5650 Hurontario St. in Mississauga. Students from Lincoln M. Alexander Secondary School shared their learning during Black History Month with trustees.​

Peel board recognizes Peel Lunchroom Supervisor Appreciation Day on March 1.

The board recognized March 1, 2019 as Peel Lunchroom Supervisor Appreciation Day. Schools will participate in a variety of activities to express their appreciation for lunchroom supervisors and acknowledge their contributions.

School year calendars approved for 2019-20

Trustees approved the proposed school year calendars for all schools, including Roberta Bondar Public School, Ray Lawson Public School, Tony Pontes Public School and Roy McMurtry School for 2019-20. The calendars will now be submitted to the Ministry of Education for approval. The dates are not official until approved by the ministry.  Tentative dates are available online.

The following elementary principal appointment will be effective March 18, 2019:

Devi (Haemalya) Parasram from vice-principal at Settler's Green Public School to principal at Nelson Mandela Public School.​

The following elementary vice-principal appointment will be effective March 18, 2019:

Shauna Sarjeant from teacher at Aylesbury Public School to vice-principal at Settler's Green Public School.​

It is recommended that the following superintendent appointment be effective March 1, 2019:

Harjit Aujla from Acting Superintendent of Education for the Mississauga, Rick Hansen and The Woodlands Families of Schools to Superintendent of Education for the Mississauga, Rick Hansen and The Woodlands Families of Schools.

It is recommended that the following superintendent appointment be approved effective March 18, 2019:

Dana Sheahan from Principal at Fletcher's Meadow Secondary School to Acting Superintendent of Education for the Brampton Centennial and David Suzuki Families of Schools.​
