Start with a Smile: The Kindergarten program
Starting school is a big step for your child and your whole family. But it's made easier when you have all the information you need.
The kindergarten environment, both in the classroom and outdoors, is filled with enriching opportunities to play, wonder and learn. Throughout the day, children are encouraged to develop their creativity and imagination, to demonstrate early reading and writing behaviours, to design, build and construct, to draw and paint, to listen and talk, and to question and be curious. All of these skills are part of the important foundation for lifelong learning.
Every day, children explore, discover, inquire and problem-solve. The educators are co-learners and engage with the children. They plan intentional play-based learning experiences where children participate in small groups. Learning through play also happens with individual children as the educators respond to the children's curiosities. There are also opportunities for children to learn in short, whole-group sessions. Outdoor play and learning provides children with opportunities for daily physical activity.
