In keeping with the spirit of the Olympic Games, Balmoral Drive Sr. Public School staff and students had their own 2014 Winter Olympics. The opening ceremonies commenced with students from the developmentally disabled class carrying the Olympic torch to all students in all classes. Staff and students represented one of six countries: U.S.A., Russia, Norway, Germany, China and Sweden.
Points were gained for their country through sportsmanship, team spirit, classroom activities and competing in the following events: bobsled, curling, speed skating, biathlon, skeleton and hockey. Lunch times were buzzing with activity and both staff and students had outstanding performances worthy of gold medal standings as the spirit of competition was extremely strong. As with the Sochi Olympics, it was sad to see the games come to an end.
