Earnscliffe students create Superhero Coffee Cart enterprise

When the superheroes in Mrs. Marciniak's grade 7 class at Earnscliffe Sr. Public School decided to create their own social enterprise, it was only fitting that they named it Superhero Coffee Cart. Over the school year, students in the combined developmental disability class have been providing coffee, student-made snacks and refreshments to staff every Thursday.

"It gives them the opportunity to get some job training and think about the job readiness piece once they're older and out of school. It's a great opportunity for our students to get to know others in the school better," says Mrs. Marciniak, special education teacher.

As part of their Superhero Coffee Cart enterprise, the students create a grocery list, take public transit to shop at the local grocery store and package the snacks. Every Thursday, the students will visit each classroom, interact with students and staff, make coffee and tea. As part of their responsibilities, the students also manage the finances and expenses for the Superhero Coffee Cart.
