Red Willow’s Me to We club empowers modern learners through food drive with a twist

Throughout the month of December 2018, students and staff at Red Willow Public School's Me to We club launched a food drive with a twist. The twist is, these students used the opportunity to incorporate the empowering modern learners vision into every aspect of their initiative through equity and engaged math.

Students from kindergarten to grade 5 tracked food items daily using a math data wall. Using this wall, students reflected and analyzed a variety of different food drive info graphics and demonstrated agency when answering questions related to the data collected.

According to their data, Red Willow collected over 1,300 non-perishable food items to feed families from across Peel, and most importantly, learned about the importance of giving back.
