North Park Secondary School Robotics moves onto VEX Robotics provincial championships
North Park Secondary School's Team 99000 robotics team represented the school at the VEX Robotics Competition's provincial qualifying event on Feb. 10 at St. Mike's College. The team was awarded the Design Award for demonstrating an organized and professional approach to the design process, project, time management and team organization.
Team 99000 submitted its engineering notebooks that documented its design process while articulating their design and strategy in robotics and engineering throughout the school year. The tournament challenges teams to troubleshoot during the competition, such as replacing motors or improving the robot's autonomous code to adjust to various obstacles.
Earlier in the school year, North Park's Team 99000 won the regional tournament and was awarded the Build Award for designing a well-crafted robot, and the Think Award for outstanding autonomous programming during the event.
Team 99000 will compete at the provincial championships on Saturday, Feb. 24 in St. Catherines.
The VEX Robotics Competition is a worldwide tournament organized by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation. Teams of students are tasked with designing and building a robot to compete against one another in a "game-based engineering challenge." This competition tests students teamwork, leadership, communication skills and more. These tournaments are held all year round at the regional, state and national levels. The VEX Robotics World Championships will take place in April 2018.
