Students and staff across the Peel District School Board will recognize Remembrance Day on Nov. 11 with various events and activities to honour our Canadian heroes. Staff at the HJA Brown Education Centre will also hold a reception to celebrate heroes and honour those who are still serving our country.
“Students and staff from our schools and locations gather every year for special Remembrance Day ceremonies and activities,” says Tony Pontes, director of education. “It’s important to honour all those who fought for our freedom, and equally important to recognize and pay tribute to the men and women who are still serving our country today.”
In Mississauga, John Fraser Secondary School will have a school-wide assembly, which will include student readings and performances. Conestoga Public School in Brampton will hold an assembly with student poems, and a special visit from World War 2 veteran, Jim McCorkle, who will share his experiences as Squadron Leader in the British Air Forces and Canadian Air Forces. Caledon’s Credit View Public School will honour Remembrance Day with student performances, including poetry, songs and a tableau.
Peel board staff will gather at the HJA Brown Education Centre in Mississauga for a Remembrance Day tribute beginning at 10:20 a.m. on Nov. 11. The event features readings by Peel board employees, a video from Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School, and live performances by students from Great Lakes Public School, and Cawthra Park and Mayfield secondary schools.
