Peel District School Board’s first balanced-calendar school celebrates ten-year anniversary at annual open house

Roberta Bondar Public School, the first school in the Peel District School Board to operate year-round, will celebrate ten years of inspiring students on Aug. 14 at its annual open house. Staff, students and parents will gather to celebrate this milestone and learn more about the exciting opportunities available to Roberta Bondar students.

“Over the past 10 years, we have built such a strong sense of community and belonging at our school,” says Sheryl Johnston, principal of Roberta Bondar. “We look forward to continuing to offer a truly dynamic and unique school experience for staff, students, and the school community-inside and outside the classroom.”

As one of two balanced calendar schools in Peel, Roberta Bondar operates year-round by spreading traditional vacation time throughout the year. It was joined by Ray Lawson Public School in 2012. Both schools feature the same 188-day school year and curriculum as regular schools, but almost half of the traditional two-month summer vacation time is spread throughout the year. The schools offer a camp program to give parents an educational childcare option during some of the holidays.

The annual Open House on Aug. 14 will feature:
  • A special presentation in the gym at 6 p.m. including information about school activities and a Twitter table where parents can create an account and follow the school’s activities.
  • Classroom meetings with teachers from 7 to 8 p.m.
  • An outdoor movie night, beginning at 8 p.m.

All students and families of Roberta Bondar are encouraged to attend.

Roberta Bondar Public School is located at 30 Pantomine Blvd in Brampton.
