Castlebridge Public School celebrates green living with Outdoor Learning Garden

Castlebridge Public School will host an inauguration ceremony for its new Outdoor Learning Garden on May 7. Castlebridge has received support from Ecosource—a non-profit organization that empowers the community to become more environmentally responsible through creative public education—in the creation of this garden.

“The Castlebridge community has long been dedicated to living and teaching with a green thumb,” says Michelle Haddad, principal at Castlebridge. “The Outdoor Learning Garden is a natural next step in providing an outdoor classroom for students and aligns with our school’s mission and vision to develop lifelong learners that are global thinkers and aware of their social responsibility.”

Director of Education Tony Pontes and Superintendent Pertia Bentwill be in attendance, along with Ecosource members Carolyn Bailey, Sierra Frank, and Anita Wong, who will host a series of gardening workshops.

“It’s inspiring to see the dedication of teachers, students and the community in planning and implementing a school-wide garden initiative,” says Carolyn Bailey, associate director at Ecosource. “We look forward to continuing our support of this exciting project through events and workshops at the Castlebridge garden as it grows and flourishes this summer.”

The Outdoor Learning Garden will be used year-round by the school and is also open to the community. The garden has received generous support and funding from Ecosource, as well as the school council and individual contributions from families.  The  community garden is also funded by corporate grants from Toronto Dominion Friends of the Environment Fund, Toyota Evergreen Learning Grounds Fund, Whole Foods and the Region of Peel.

The ceremony will take place from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Castlebridge is located at 2801 Castlebridge Dr. in Mississauga.
