Heather Deslippe, guidance counsellor and In-School Support Program teacher at Greenbriar Senior Public School, is the 2014 recipient of the Helen Des Roches Starfish Award. She will be honoured at an award ceremony on March 18 during Social Work week at Greenbriar.
"Heather is a deserving recipient who is not only a superior professional, mentor, teacher and colleague, but also an outstanding philanthropist," says Paula Laitila, school social worker with the Peel District School. “The award recognizes Heather’s dedication to the well-being of students, to developing student leadership and to volunteering her time for the greater good of the school community and beyond.”
Deslippe’s career at Greenbriar has been distinguished by her commitment to promoting the welfare of all students and her dedication to the widespread growth of the school community. She generously supports her colleagues in their work efforts and inspires people who work with her.
The Helen Des Roches Starfish Award is presented annually to an individual who has made a significant difference in the lives of students facing obstacles to their education. The Peel board social workers nominate individuals who are current employees or affiliates with the board. A committee of three school social workers review the nominations and select the recipient.
The award ceremony begins at 9 a.m. on March 18 at Greenbriar, located at 1140 Central Park Drive in Brampton.
