Peel board encourages parents to register children for school

Schools open for registration Aug. 27 to 31

The start of the school year is a busy time for teachers, school staff and families. To ensure students' transition to school is as smooth as possible, the Peel District School Board encourages parents who have not yet registered their children for school to beat the back-to-school rush and register before classes begin on Sept. 4.

"The board wants to ensure that students are registered and ready to begin school on Sept. 4," says Jerry Powidajko, superintendent of staff development and school support services. "Registering children early helps us establish bus routes and eases demands placed on students and school staff during the first week back."

Parents of children attending kindergarten in the fall can register their children for school from Aug. 27 to 31 at their neighbourhood school. Parents of secondary students who need to register their teens for school, are asked to call the school for registration details.

If you are new to Peel and need to register your child for school, the Peel board offers three We Welcome the World centres that provide a range of services to help make the transition to school a smooth one for newcomer students and their families. For more information or to book an appointment at the centre near you, call 905-366-8791.

To register a child for school, parents are required to provide proof of age, proof of address in Peel and the child's immunization and education records. In some cases, immigration documents will be requested. For a full list of  acceptable registration documents please visit
For general inquiries about immunization, the immunization schedule or to determine if a child’s record is up-to-date, parents or caregivers can call Health Line Peel at 905-799-7700. An exemption form can be obtained if a child has not been immunized for medical reasons or because of a conflict of religion or conscience.

To find out which school their child will attend, parents can call the board's Planning and Accommodation department at 905-890-1010 or 1-800-668-1146, ext. 2212. Further details are also available at Look for the "school registration" link in the Spotlight section of the home page.
