Central Peel Regional Strings program hosts interactive concert and workshop X-Travaganza

On Nov. 29, over 300 students will attend Central Peel Secondary School’s Strings X-Travaganza, an event full of hands-on workshops and an interactive concert featuring performances by Central Peel students and the déVah Electric String Quartet. Yamaha Music Canada will be donating $6,000 worth of equipment to be used to enhance the school’s Regional Strings program.

“This event gives students an opportunity to see an exciting, world-class ensemble, while also learning about the musical opportunities available in our Regional Strings program,” says Lawrence De Maeyer, principal of Central Peel Secondary School. “We are thrilled withYamaha Music Canada’s tremendous contribution, which will help current and future students push the boundaries of their musical talents.”

Central Peel’s Regional Strings program accepts students interested in playing string instruments at beginner, experienced, and advanced levels. Students in the program focus on mastering their string instrument of choice with instruction by an accomplished strings teacher. Students perform in solo settings as well as small and large ensembles. Other enrichment activities include music theory, history, ear training, improvisation, composition and extracurricular opportunities.

Yamaha Music Canada will provide Central Peel with two electric violins, an electric viola, an electric cello and a mixer to run the instruments into a public address system. Long & McQuade Brampton will be loaning the school acoustic basses for use at the event.
