Terry Fox’s brother visits five Peel schools to share vision of hope and inspiration

On Sept. 11, Fred Fox—brother of Terry Fox—will visit the Peel board’s Heart Lake family of schools, which includes Conestoga, Esker Lake, Robert H. Lagerquist Sr., Somerset Drive and Terry Fox public schools. The next day, students from the above schools will honour Terry by walking from their schools to Terry Fox Public School, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year.

“All of the Heart Lake schools are committed to keeping Terry’s dream alive,” says Deborah Muma, principal at Esker Lake Public School. “It’s just one way our schools are working together to inspire success, confidence and hope in each student.”

Fred will visit each school for a 45-minute, school-wide assembly. An agenda is listed below:

  • 9 a.m. - Esker Lake Public School, located at 10420 Heart Lake Rd. in Brampton.
  • 10 a.m. - Robert H. Lagerquist Sr. Public School, located at 105 Richvale Dr. North in Brampton.
  • 11 a.m. - Terry Fox Public School, located at 95 Richvale Dr. North in Brampton.
  • 1 p.m. - Conestoga Public School, located at 300 Conestoga Dr. in Brampton.
  • 2 p.m. - Somerset Drive Public School, located at 50 Somerset Dr. in Brampton.

The students’ walk on Sept. 12 will end with a celebration rally at Terry Fox Public School, where students will put on performances in honour of Terry.

Schools from across the Peel board will participate in Terry Fox-related activities throughout September, including the Terry Fox Run on Sept. 15.
