Students, staff and members of the community will celebrate the official opening of Janet I. McDougald Public School, located in Mississauga, on May 22.
"Students, staff and parents are very excited about the official opening of our school," says Beatrice Jankowski, principal of Janet I. McDougald. "We have been working hard all year to prepare for this special event and are certain our parents and community partners will be impressed by the new facility, and the talent of our students."
The new school is built on the former Lyndwood Public School site. The school holds students from former Byngmount Beach, Lyndwood and Neil C. Matheson public schools which were consolidated as a result of an accommodation review in 2008-09. Trustees made the decision to officially rename the school in honour of the board’s long-standing trustee and chair Janet I. McDougald at a board meeting on Dec. 1, 2011.
"This is so special—to have a school named for me, and especially for the school to be in my community,” says Janet McDougald, chair of the board. “I am truly humbled and honoured.”
The event will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and will include student performances. Janet I. McDougald Public School is located at 498 Hartsdale Ave. in Mississauga.
