Elementary Regional Learning Choices Programs empower students to unlock their passions
Starting Jan. 11, Peel families can learn more about the Peel District School Board's elementary Regional Learning Choices Programs (RLCP) through virtual information sessions. Elementary regional programs empower students by providing them with opportunities to develop and explore skills in a particular area of interest.
The Peel board offers six different elementary regional programs across Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon. All elementary regional programs start in grade 6, except for the Arts program at Queen Elizabeth P.S. (South of Highway 401), which begins in grade 7. To learn more about each program, families can watch video presentations and attend webinars by visiting the Elementary RLCP page on the board site.
How to apply and new self-identification process
Applications for the 2021-22 school year will be open on the board website from Jan. 25, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. to Feb. 8, 2021 at 3 p.m.
If the student meets the application criteria, their application will be entered into the random selection process for each program. In the random selection process, a computer will randomly assign a number to each applicant who has successfully met the application criteria for each program and spaces for the programs will be offered. Please note that the random selection process is completed centrally at the board level and not at the school level.
As part of the board's commitment to equity and inclusion, and to address significant disproportionalities in enrollment and equitable representation of African, Black, First Nations, Inuit and Métis students, the RLCP application form will include a new self-identification section. All African, Black, First Nations, Inuit and Métis students who self-identify on the application form and meet the criteria for admission will be accepted into the program without participating in the random selection process.
