While many schools will be holding their own celebrations to recognize graduates, the Peel District School Board will celebrate its class of 2020 in a virtual graduation celebration on June 18, 2020. Students, families, staff and community members are invited to join the virtual event, which will be shared on the board's YouTube channel from 7 to 7:30 p.m. The celebration will feature performances and messages by Peel students and alumni and will be hosted by Wali Shah, Cawthra Park Secondary School graduate, public speaker and Mississauga's former poet laureate.
"Big congratulations to all graduating students for everything you've done to get to this milestone. Every accomplishment, stumble and leap along the way has helped you become the person you are today, and we are so proud of you," says Director of Education Peter Joshua. "Even though your graduating year certainly was different than we all expected, take this opportunity to celebrate your journey and well-deserved success!"
Adds Joshua, "I also want to thank parents and guardians, family members, staff, educators and the Peel community for helping graduates arrive to this moment. You have all been part of the journey that has inspired success, confidence and hope in each student. Your partnership is appreciated."
