Parents in the Peel Region are invited to attend Parenting Mini-Conference: Effective Parenting Strategies, One Tip at a Time!, hosted by Lancaster Public School on May 11. The conference features a keynote presentation from Alyson Shafer, columnist for Today’s Parent and author of two parenting books.
“This is the first event of its kind being offered to the Malton Community, and is completely based on parent feedback,” says Angela Nardi-Addesa, principal at Lancaster Public School. “We hope to empower parents with strategies and tools to strengthen relationships at home, so they can raise intelligent, respectful and well-rounded citizens of tomorrow.”
Shafer will provide parents with tips to effectively communicate with their child and to maximize student academic and socio-emotional opportunities. Children are invited to participate in a separate seminar, which will teach communication skills and build schema through an Aboriginal drumming experience.
This mini-conference is offered through Lancaster’s Accessible Opportunities for Malton Families program, which includes monthly events for parents.
The event will run from 11:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m on May 11, and includes a free lunch. Lancaster Public School is located at 7425 Netherwood Rd. in Mississauga.
