King’s Masting students achieve fundraising goal for new school in Kenya

Student effort, awareness to be recognized in school assembly

King’s Masting Public School is scheduled to close at the end of 2014, but before that happens, students will help build a new school in Africa. For the past three years, King’s Masting has partnered with Free the Children to raise funds to build a school in Kenya, and recently they reached their goal of $8,500. Their efforts will be recognized at a school assembly on March 7.

“It’s very touching to see the empathy that these children have,” says Jason Billings, acting principal of King’s Masting. “Students are determined to create a legacy for their current school community in a new school building in Kenya, where it will make a difference to an entire community.

Students will find out at the assembly how much they have raised, and how their fundraising will impact children in Kenya. The recognition event starts at 1 p.m. King’s Masting Public School is located at 3351 King’s Masting Crescent in Mississauga.
