Dual Credits Program students impacted by potential provincial college strike

The purpose of this letter is to update Peel District School Board students and families, who participate in the Dual Credits program, on the status of labour negotiations between colleges and their staff. We know that it’s important for you to know how this situation may affect your program and school schedule.

As you may be aware, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), which represents full-time professors, instructors, counsellors and librarians within Ontario’s college system, and the College Employer Council, which represents the 24 college institutions in Ontario, have been negotiating a new collective agreement.
It has come to our attention, if a collective agreement is not reached, OPSEU has set a strike action deadline for Monday, Oct. 16, 2017, at 12:01 a.m.
In the event of a strike at provincial colleges, all colleges will be closed and the Peel board and our schools will implement plans that will allow your teen to continue work on the high school component of their program. A letter will be going home to affected families to outline their teen’s accommodations.
The Peel board will continue to monitor the provincial college labour situation and its impact on Dual Credits program students. Please look for updates on www.peelschools.org and our social media accounts.
