Input to be collected through online survey, School Council consultation, delegations
The Peel District School Board is seeking input from staff, parents, students and community members to help shape its 2017-18 school year budget. Input will be collected through a School Council consultation process, delegations and an online survey.
“The Peel board has a long history of fiscal responsibility, focused on a mission to inspire success, confidence and hope in each student,” says Janet McDougald, chair of the board. “Through the effective use of resources to enhance student achievement, the board is able support the needs of all learners in an efficient and sustainable manner.”
To provide input, individuals may:
• delegate the board at Regular Meetings of the Board on April 12, April 25 or May 9, 2017. To present to trustees at these meetings, individuals must contact the Director's Office at 905-890-1010 (or 1-800-668-1146) ext. 2010, and complete the board's Request to Delegate Registration Form
• provide input through their school’s School Council if they are a Peel board parent/guardian. Parents/guardians should contact their School Council chair to find out when budget consultation will be discussed at an upcoming meeting.
Notes McDougald, “It’s important to note that approximately 95 per cent of the Peel board’s revenue is provided directly from the Ministry of Education through the Grants for Student Needs (GSN) funding that is based on enrolment and the specific needs of students in each school board. So, the majority of school board funding must be used for the purpose that it was granted—e.g. facilities operating costs and salaries. There are, however, areas of the budget where input can be sought. This is where our communities’ input comes in.”
