Conference focuses on numeracy—26 of 61 parent workshops help with math
The Peel District School Board will host its Numeracy and Beyond: Parent Conference 2016 on Saturday, April 2 at Rick Hansen Secondary School in Mississauga. This free learning event is for parents of Peel board elementary and secondary students.
"This conference continues to help deliver on our commitment to student success, by providing tips to parents to boost their child's achievement in numeracy and beyond," says Tony Pontes, director of education. "The conference is a chance for parents to learn from some of our own educators who are recognized throughout Ontario as experts, including Jonathan So, the first Peel board educator to keynote our parent conference."
Jonathan So, a grade 6 teacher at Ray Lawson Public School, will help parents understand a balanced approach to mathematics, how teachers teach numeracy skills, and how parents can help children become DOERS of math. Parents can also choose from 61 workshops and visit with organizations that will be on hand to share their resources with parents. Workshops include:

Rick Hansen is located at 1150 Dream Crest Rd. in Mississauga. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. Opening remarks and the keynote presentation start at 8:30 a.m. Workshops run from 10 to 11 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The conference ends at 2:30 p.m.
