Peel District School Board trustees approved the names of four new elementary schools at the Regular Meeting of the Board on Jan. 12. Dolson, McClure, Tribune Drive and Whaley's Corners public schools will serve students from kindergarten to grade 8 in Brampton communities.
"We're excited for four more exciting opportunities to inspire success, confidence and hope in our students," says Brian Woodland, director of communications and community relations at the Peel board. "These schools will respond to the continued growth in the Town of Brampton."
The following new schools are scheduled to open for the 2016-17 school year:
Dolson Public School is located at 95 Remembrance Rd. The school is named for the nearby Dolson farm, specifically Florence Dolson, born in 1884. She was a prominent figure in this community and served as a nurse during World War I. Please note, Dolson students will be held at the Tribune Drive Public School building until the Dolson building is ready for student occupancy, scheduled for September 2017.
McClure Public School is located at 50 Parity Rd. The school is named for the McClure family, who owned a farm on the property during the mid-1800s.
The following new schools are scheduled to open for the 2017-18 school year:
Tribune Drive Public School is located on 30 Tribune Dr.
Whaley's Corners Public School is located at the intersection of Howard Stewart Road and Dancing Waters Road. The school is named for the historical Whaley's Corners community, developed in the early 1800s, which was located near the school site.
