The Peel District School Board continues to work with technology vendors to increase equity of access to technology for students. This week, VIG Solutions will introduce two new, affordable options available to Peel board families.
"We strive to provide a wide range of technology options that provide equity of access to all students and families," says Brian Woodland, director of communications and community relations. "The board continues to look for ways for students to 'power up' their learning, helping us to inspire success, confidence and hope, whether it's at home or in the classroom."
Parents can purchase low-cost technology products for student use through the board's Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) parent resource page at www.peelschools.org/BYOD. For $110, VIG Solutions will offer an Intel Dual Core, 2GB, 160GB computer with a 17-inch LCD monitor. A 10-inch netbook with 1GB ram, 160GB hard drive, Wi-Fi capability and Windows 7, provides basic functionality for student use, will be available for $60. Taxes and shipping will be applied to product costs, and all items come with a six-month warranty. These products can be purchased at www.refurbitstock.ca/peel (password: peelregion). The board does not benefit from the sale of the devices and will not be involved in service, warranty or product issues.
Notes Woodland, "We'll continue to work with vendors and manufacturers as we look for partners to close the digital divide and make affordable options available to those in our communities. In fact, we encourage other companies with low-cost devices—from netbooks to notebooks to Internet service—to come forward and we will add them to our menu."
Before purchasing a device, families should consider:
