Peel board kindergarten teachers and designated childhood educators inspire peers at 'Early Years Conference'

The Peel District School Board will host the annual Early Years Conference on May 7 at the HJA Brown Education Centre. Centered around the theme The Artistry of Children…Play, this free learning event will bring together more than 500 educators committed to networking and professional development.

“Play-based learning is an integral part of the kindergarten program at the Peel board,” says Wendy Dowling, superintendent of education – early years at the Peel board. “The workshops will be an opportunity for educators to expand their knowledge and skills in delivering quality learning experiences for kindergarten students.”

The conference will feature a talk by Hickory Woods Public School school council chair Stephanie Sankar and kindergarten student Laila Geralde, who will speak from a parent and child perspective, followed by a keynote presentation by Coordinating Superintendent of the Peel board Shirley-Ann Teal. More than 14 workshops will be facilitated by kindergarten teachers and designated early childhood educators.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. with a picnic barbecue, followed by the keynote presentation at 5 p.m. Workshops will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. and from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. The HJA Brown Education Centre is located at 5650 Hurontario St. in Mississauga.
