Students, staff and community members will celebrate the official opening of Nelson Mandela Public School on April 23. The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and will include student performances, a tribute presentation to the school's namesake, and classroom visits.
"Nelson Mandela Public School has the honour of being named after a man recognized worldwide for his commitment to the rights and freedoms of all people," says Joanne de Melo, principal at Nelson Mandela. "We are inspired by his vision and influence every day, and will showcase this at our grand opening event. Students and staff are thrilled to gather for such an exciting occasion."

- Michael Palleschi, City of Brampton regional councillor
- Suzanne Nurse, vice-chair of the board
- Shirley-Ann Teal, coordinating superintendent
Nelson Mandela opened its doors to students in September 2014. The school is located at 10125 Chinguacousy Road in Brampton.
