Peel board students, staff raise nearly $250,000 for local community

Peel District School Board students and staff raised a total of $247,607 in support of the United Way of Peel Region and the network of social service agencies it supports in the community. Schools planned a variety of fundraisers and staff, students and parents were encouraged to donate a loonie or toonie as a part of United Way Giving Day in the fall.

"At the Peel board, we are committed to supporting children, youth and families right here in Peel and United Way and its agencies do just that," says Tony Pontes, director of education. "The dedication to help those in need is impressive and I extend a sincere thanks to all of our students, staff and families for pitching in and helping to inspire possibility."

The Peel board serves more than 153,000 students in kindergarten to grade 12. Operating 246 schools in the municipalities of Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga, the Peel board is the largest employer in Peel. For more information, visit
