School Attendant
The Peel District School Board is currently hiring casual school attendants to work on an “as needed” basis. Candidates are to be available on call a minimum of three days per week. The hours of work range between three and one half hours up to a maximum of seven hours with start times between 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and ending as late as 11:30 p.m.
The duties of a casual school attendant include cleaning assigned areas of the school and washrooms; vacuuming carpets; cleaning using a germicidal detergent on all desks, table tops and sink areas; emptying and wiping clean all waste receptacles; and sweeping or dust mopping floor areas.
Prior to the applicant being accepted for this position, candidates being considered for selection will be required to complete a written test and demonstrate to the School Board that they have the physical capability to perform the essential physical duties of the job.
This entry level position may lead to a permanent/part time position as a school attendant School Attendants are then able to apply for custodial or maintenance positions if qualified.
The preferred candidate for a casual school attendant will have the following qualifications:
- Physically fit and able to bend, walk, stand, push, pull, twist, climb stairs, and to lift on average 10 kilos.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures.
- Requirement to work at various sites within the Peel Region.
- Commercial or industrial cleaning experience.
- Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written, to work effectively with Board personnel and outside agencies.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety.
- Ability to work alone and in a team setting.
