MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES


Board congratulates REC International Youth Film Festival winners from David Suzuki Secondary School

Trustees congratulated David Suzuki Secondary students Joshua Broxill, Lorna Phan, Brooke Pilloud and Danielle Pilloud for winning Best Documentary in the 15-16 year old category at the REC International Youth Film Festival in Berlin. Their award-winning documentary, Please Don't Let Me Die on the Street, is a short film about a homeless senior in Brampton.

Board congratulates communications staff member for being named to the National School Public Relations Association's Class of 35 under 35

Trustees congratulated the board's Senior Communications Officer Kayla Tishcoff for being named to the National School Public Relations Association's (NSPRA) 2018-19 Class of 35 under 35. The program recognizes professional members across North America who make a difference for their school districts or education-related employers.

Board congratulates communications department for  Canadian Association of Communicators in Education BRAVO Awards

Trustees congratulated staff in the board's communications and community relations support services department for receiving multiple 2018 BRAVO Awards from the Canadian Association of Communicators in Education (CACE) for exemplary work in all aspects of school public relations, communications, marketing and engagement:

  • Award of Excellence in the communications program/project category for communications plans and resources about religious accommodation.
  • Award of Excellence in the traditional/electronic category for Starting Point 2017 All That We Share video.
  • Award of Distinction in the traditional/electronic category for communications resources created for Education Week 2017.
  • Coup de Coeur Award for projects communications teams are proud of for www.sharethesmile.ca, an online platform for sharing the many successes of Peel board students, staff, volunteers and other members of the school community. 

Annual Planning Document identifies a new school, grade re-organizations, new school boundaries and boundary changes, an enrolment cap, and French immersion boundary changes

Board approves changes to By-laws on Delegations

Trustees approved the proposed changes to the Board By-law on Delegations. To view the full changes, see section 9.3 of the Nov. 13, 2018 Regular Meeting of the Board agenda.

Board approves revisions to policies

Trustees approved revisions to a number of Board policies as part of the board's regular policy review which takes place during the last full year of the trustees' term of office. Revisions have been made to policies to reflect current practices and any changes in legislation and/or to clarify language and update changes in titles, etc. The proposed changes have been reviewed by the administration and approved by the Trustee Review Committee. The following elementary principal assignments will be effective December 3, 2018:

Tracy LeMoine from principal at McCrimmon Middle School to Manager of Staffing, Human Resources Support Services.

Craig Cooper from principal at Tecumseh Public School to Coordinating Principal, Advancing Equity and Inclusion, Special Education Support Services.
