Successful intervention and progress monitoring strategies for older struggling readers and writers - Dr. Hyla Rubin
Friday, October 13, 2017
HJA Brown Education Centre
5650 Hurontario Street
Dr. Hyla Rubin loves teaching adults about children, because she loves children and thrives on making sure that each and every one of them reach their academic and personal potential, the same goal she strives to accomplish with her graduate students and practitioners in the many fields she services. This presentation will focus specifically on successful instructional methods for struggling readers and writers from Grade 2 through Grade 6. Case studies of students in these grades will be used throughout the presentation. In addition to in-depth discussion of the ways these students are taught to read and write, initial assessment and ongoing monitoring of progress will be described using authentic reading and writing samples and other easily administered measures. The techniques described for assessment, progress monitoring and instruction will also be applicable to students in higher grades.
