Castlemore Public School is a kindergarten to grade 8 elementary school which opened in September 2008 at the corner of Castlemore and the Gore Road. With a focus on literacy throughout the curriculum and authentic real life problem solving opportunities in mathematics, Castlemore supports student learning and personal growth. In addition, the wide variety of extracurricular activities and leadership opportunities available to students of all ages demonstrate Castlemore’s ongoing commitment to student development. Castlemore believes in high expectations for staff and students along with a passion for creating lifelong learners.
At Castlemore, staff and students contribute to our school, local and world communities. Through this tremendous commitment to giving back, our students learn they have the power and ability to change their world. Opportunities include:
• community outreach through our student-directed MINGA club – “Reaching out to help those in need, just because...,”
• social–emotional – staff is Tribes Trained, monthly character attribute assemblies celebrating and honouring our successes (e.g., citizenship, inclusivity, kindness, responsibility, etc.),
• service learning opportunities where students are actively engaged in integrating and applying knowledge and skills from various subject and learning skills areas as they work to improve their communities and increase civic participation, and
• student-centred approach in all that we do - differentiating for student needs, making it meaningful for students, restorative practices approach (stressing healthy relationships), empowering students, raising resilient kids, etc.
All of these experiences teach our children that they can...make a difference!
