Port Credit's chess team proves to be unstoppable at a 48 hour chess competition

Students from Port Credit Secondary School's chess team put their skills to the test at the Ontario High School Chess Championship's 48 hour chess marathon in Toronto on May 11 and 12. Seven chess players from the school received a total of 11 medals and two trophies for their exceptional strategic chess skills and remarkable willpower.

The junior team comprised of members Nikola Petrov, Souvik Sil and Thinh Nguyen who received silver and bronze medals in the individual grade competition.

Surya Sendhilraj won a gold medal and a trophy in the overall individual competition.

Port Credit students, Kesavar Kabilar, David Sun and Aryan Gajelli, all members of the senior team, received bronze medals.

The school has had its chess team for nearly two decades and has participated in a variety of events at the competition level. Last year, students at the school competed in the Intermediate category in the championships and earned fourth place. ​
