John Milkovich, Mayfield Secondary School student is one of 34 students to receive The Loran Award, one of Canada's most prestigious scholarship. The Loran Award is presented to exceptional young leaders who are committed to serving others and making a difference in their school and community.
Milkovich's leadership extends beyond classroom walls. While earning top grades in school, he is also involved in extracurricular activities, including captaining sports teams, organizing a wheelchair basketball tournament to raise money for disabled children in Uganda, competing as a Nordic skier and more. Milkovich hopes to attend the biomedical engineering program at McMaster University after graduation.
Over 5,000 students from across Canada apply for The Loran Award. Each year, only 88 students are invited to its national selection process by panelists who will make the final decision. Recipients of this award are granted a $100,000 scholarship, including a $10,000 annual stipend, mentorship, summer internships, annual retreats and a weeklong orientation expedition in Algonquin Park, Ontario.
