Wendy Dowling appointed associate director of school support services, Poleen Grewal appointed associate director of instructional and equity support services
The Peel District School Board has appointed Wendy Dowling as the new associate director of school support services, and Poleen Grewal as the new associate director of instructional and equity support services. Dowling's new role replaces the current coordinating superintendent position. Grewal replaces Scott Moreash, who retires at the end of September. Both appointments are effective Aug. 1, 2017.
In this new position, Dowling will supervise and support the board's 13 superintendents of education and the superintendent of leadership development and school support services to implement board policies, programs and initiatives. "Wendy is a gifted consensus-builder with an unwavering commitment to student success," says Janet McDougald, chair of the board. "We have always been impressed with Wendy's dedication to Peel students and their families, and her ability to lead through challenging situations while maintaining strong and positive working relationships." Dowling is currently superintendent of leadership development and school support services. Prior to that, she was superintendent of education for Clarkson, Lorne Park and Erindale families of schools. Dowling joined the Peel board as a teacher at Erin Mills Sr. Public School in 1987.
As superintendent of instructional and equity support services, Grewal will leverage her expertise in instruction and assessment to support the implementation of teaching and learning initiatives, including the board's Empowering Modern Leaders vision. In this role, she will supervise the following support services departments: alternative programs, curriculum and instruction, early years, human resources, and special education. Notes McDougald, "Poleen will lead and supervise the board's ambitious and bold initiatives to increase equity and inclusion. Her leadership on the board's We Rise Together action plan, her deep understanding of equity, and her focus on continuous progress in this area will help us achieve our board goal of inclusion for all." Grewal is currently superintendent of curriculum and instruction support services. Prior to that, she was superintendent of education for Meadowvale and Streetsville families of schools and West Credit Secondary School. Grewal joined the Peel board as a teacher at McCrimmon Middle School in 2003. Before that, she taught in the North York and Toronto district school boards. She began her career in education in 1997.
Moreash retires Sept. 30, 2017. He has served as associate director of instructional support services since January 2013. Says McDougald, "Scott has done an exemplary job of serving the students, families and community members since becoming a teacher at Mayfield Secondary School in 1984. Through a variety of leadership experiences and his strong work ethic, Scott has contributed so much to the Peel board, and far more to public education. We wish him all our very best in retirement."
The Peel board serves more than 150,000 students in kindergarten to the end of secondary school as well as thousands of adult learners.
