Peel board Showcase of Excellence highlights week-long celebration of public education
On May 11, the Peel District School Board will host Showcase of Excellence, an evening to honour Award of Excellence recipients for their outstanding contributions to public education. The event is one of the highlights of Education Week 2017, which takes place in Peel schools and worksites from May 1 to 5.
"Education Week in Peel has always been an opportunity to celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of our students, staff and school communities," says Tony Pontes, director of education. "All of the Award of Excellence recipients have made a real and extraordinary difference for Peel students and families. Their stories remind us of the power each of us has, each and every day, to unlock student passion and potential."
In addition, the Peel board will honour Gena Norbury, music teacher at Eldorado Public School, with the Education Champion Award for her significant and lasting contributions to public education beyond Peel borders.
"As a teacher and advocate, an organizer and mentor, Gena's impact continues to echo across the board and far beyond," says Janet McDougald, chair of the Board. "She is a true Education Champion for her students and her musical passion."
