Dimple Gandhi, behavioural teaching assistant at Earnscliffe Senior Public School, is the 2017 recipient of the Helen Des Roches Starfish Award. She will be honoured at an award ceremony at her school on March 7 during Social Work Week.

"Dimple is dedicated to student success and believes it is important for students to be mentors who can positively contribute to the school and community," says Mariam Jonckheere, school social worker with the Peel District School Board. "The award recognizes her commitment to the well-being of all students, especially those in need."

Ms. Gandhi's career at Earnscliffe has been distinguished by her dedication to students, staff and the community. She works tirelessly to assist students with achieving their aspirations and goals.  She supports her colleagues in their work and inspires people who work with her.

The Helen Des Roches Starfish Award is presented annually to an individual who has made a significant difference in the lives of students facing obstacles to their education. The Peel Board Social Workers nominate individuals who are current employees or affiliates with the board. A committee of four school social workers review the nominations and select the recipient.

The award ceremony begins at 1 p.m. on March 7 at Earnscliffe Senior Public School, located at 50 Earnscliffe Circle in Brampton.
