On May 20, Sandalwood Heights Secondary School will host a charity car show in support of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). As part of the show, students and community members will showcase their vehicles and enter a “Best in Show” competition. Students will fundraise for MADD during the week leading up to the event and collect donations as people enter the show.
“Students in the Peel District School Board are taught to be responsible whether they are at school, home or on the road,” says David Hilgendorff, technology department head at Sandalwood Heights and the organizer of the event. “The car show is an opportunity for them to fundraise for a great cause, while learning to be safe and responsible drivers.”
Representatives from MADD will attend to accept the donation and provide information to students about the dangers of drunk driving. Many other members of the community will take part, including car dealerships, repair shops and representatives from the local Chrysler Assembly Plant in Brampton.
Vehicles will be entered into the “Best in Show” competition in two categories: student vehicles and community members/former student vehicles, with one award going to the winner of each category. There will also be a Student Choice Award, won by the car with the most votes from students.
The event takes place at Sandalwood Heights, located at 2671 Sandalwood Pky. E. in Brampton. The show starts at 11:10 a.m. and runs until 1:45 p.m.
