Peel schools ‘Inspire Possibility!’ in the community
The Peel District School Board has declared Feb. 9 as United Way Giving Day
in support of the United Way of Peel Region. The board encourages staff, students and parents to donate a loonie or toonie on Feb. 9. Funds raised will support the United Way of Peel Region and the network of social service agencies it supports in the community. Schools will use social media to share their fundraising efforts with the hashtag #InspirePossibility.
"While we strive to inspire success, confidence and hope each and every day, we know that there are many needs in our community that we can’t always address," says Tony Pontes, director of education. "Now in its second year, our hope is that this board-wide giving day will inspire possibility not only at our schools, but in the community at large, helping those who need it most.”
In addition to United Way Giving Day, the Peel board also has a campaign planned from Feb. 9 to Mar. 4, 2016, to encourage staff to consider payroll deductions to be used to support United Way of Peel Region and the agencies it serves.
The Peel board serves more than 154,000 students in kindergarten to grade 12. Operating 250 schools in the municipalities of Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga, the Peel board is the largest employer in Peel. For more information, visit www.peelschools.org.
