Tips for success

Returning to school as an adult is a big step to improve your future. We will support you in making this a good experience. Here are some ways to help you learn:

  • Attend class.
There is nothing that takes the place of being present for the teacher’s presentation, class discussion and the chance to ask questions. Check your schedule carefully for the months of the course and don’t book any appointments during school time.

  • Be on time.
We appreciate that in adult life, from time to time, situations can occur that cause you to be late but a pattern of lateness is not acceptable. If you arrive late to class, please treat the teacher and the rest of the class with respect by not disturbing or interrupting them.

  • Have the required class materials.
Make sure you have the appropriate text books, notebooks, instruments and anything else required for your class.

  • Discuss difficulties with your teacher or counsellor.
There may be times when it is hard to balance school, work and home life. You may feel you cannot prepare an assignment in time or cannot be ready for an upcoming evaluation. This may cause you to think about missing a test or dropping a course. If this happens, it is important to speak about your concerns early with your teacher, or with one of the counsellors or the administrator. If you wait until the day the work is due or test day, it may be too late for us to help you solve problems. Working together is easier than trying on your own.
